Sorry, no subtitles but please see below for a transcript from the video. Thanks :) UPDATE ON THE FUTURE OF 262 We know that people have been wondering what is happening with 262. So we thought it was time to give everyone an update as we promised you all we would keep you updated. And we also want to tell everyone about a new 262 Option that we are very excited about. This new Option would mean that the 262 building would not have to be sold. WHAT DCD HAVE BEEN DOING? You know that DCD have moved their offices to Welland. So they don't need 262 any more. And you also know that DCD have been saying they cannot afford to pay the yearly running and upkeep costs of 262. So the DCD Board have been looking at three 262 Options: • Subdividing 262, selling the back of the land and keeping and upgrading the building for use by the Deaf Community • Subdividing 262 and selling both the back of the land and the building in two separate lots • Selling the whole of 262 as one lot DCD have told us recently that they haven't decided on which option they want -- and that 262 is not being "actively marketed". But we know they have asked their property consultants to look for possible 262 buyers and to talk to them. And the property consultants have been talking with people who are or might be interested in buying 262. We do not know who these people are or how much they want to pay for 262. NEW OPTION FOR SAVING 262 DSRSA are very excited because a new Option has come up that would mean: • The 262 building does not have to be sold • The Deaf Community could continue to use the building. We have written three formal letters to DCD explaining this new Option. We have also had a formal meeting with DCD Board representatives to talk about the new Option. DCD have told us they are still looking at all the possibilities and have not made any decisions. And they have promised they will seriously consider this new Option. They are working out whether to accept the new Option or sell the whole property. WHAT IS THIS NEW OPTION/OPPORTUNITY? A few weeks ago, DSRSA received a formal, written "Development Partnership Proposal" from a not-for-profit community housing provider based in South Australia. This organization proposed a partnership between themselves and DSRSA (or DCD & DSRSA) that would mean: • The 262 building would not have to be sold • The Deaf Community could continue to use the 262 building • The Deaf Community would have a new Deaf Club on the 262 property • DCD would not have to pay any running or upkeep costs for the building • DCD would not have to pay for upgrading the building • DCD would not have to pay for new Deaf Club accommodation DSRSA are very excited as we think this new Option is very good for the Deaf Community. We also think it is very good for DCD as DCD will no longer have to pay for the building. So we want DCD to pick this new Option instead of selling 262 -- and have told them that this is what we want. DSRSA is working very hard to convince DCD to pick this new Option The DCD Board is also working hard comparing this new Option for saving the building with the other options for selling the building. We very much hope the DCD Board will do the right thing for the Deaf Community, pick the new Option and save 262. But we know that DCD wants to use money from selling 262 to pay back the loan to Townsend House. So we have asked the DCD Board, most of whom are also on the Townsend House Board, whether maybe Townsend House could let DCD have the loan for a few more years and wait until DCD gets the money to pay them back. So keep your fingers crossed!! We will update you when we hear about what DCD has decided.
