Description

Help Dialysis Patients Get Their Life Back. Call to Action. Dear friends, we need your help. More than 570,000 Americans and millions around the world are afflicted with (ESRD) End Stage Renal Disease – a kidney disease that can ONLY be treated by lifelong hemodialysis (Dialysis) or by a kidney transplant, if you’re that lucky and these numbers are increasing at an alarming rate. In addition, the annual mortality rate for Dialysis patients in the US is approximately 20%, which means that 20% of all US Dialysis patients will not survive each year. At the same time standard Dialysis treatment, for most patients, maybe worse than the cure, much as chemotherapy is for cancer patients. The dialysis regimen is so taxing and so invasive of one’s ability to enjoy life that many other hardships rear their ugly heads, depression – coronary disease – sleep apnea – anemia, to name only a few. Let me tell you about my friend Mary. Five months ago she was diagnosed with kidney disease. She’s now chained to a dialysis machine 3 times a week. Her diet is severely restricted - no more restaurant food. She can’t eat an orange, a banana, not even an ice cream cone or a beer with her friends or go to work. Life for Mary is no longer what it was. But, there is hope for Mary and all the Mary’s of the world. There’s a new revolutionary medical device called the “WAK”, a Wearable Artificial Kidney. You will be able to wear it like a belt and it’s connected to your blood supply through a catheter. It filters and purifies the blood much like a natural kidney. Mary will be able to wear it 24/7 once it receives FDA approval. We believe she will be able to eat that orange, that banana have that beer with her friends, go to work again and we also believe she will live longer than had she remained chained to the standard hemodialysis machine. The WAK was awarded FDA Innovation Pathways 2.0 status. This puts the WAK on a fast track, but it will still take a few years to complete FDA trials. The Wearable Artificial Kidney Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization formed to provide funding for public research on the WAK and FDA mandated trials. FDA trials are not cheap and millions more are needed. The more money we can provide, the faster the trials and eventual approval will be forthcoming. And unlike many other charitable organizations, other than the costs of advertising, donor awards and direct overhead expenses, 100% of your donation goes to research, including FDA trials. Please assist us in helping the millions of Mary’s out there in the world live what we believe will be a longer and more productive life. Your donation, no matter how small means everything to the kidney patient, and means even more to their children, friends and families.
