Description

Shanley Activities Director Randy Nelson, in his own words, would often say of his students, “We are always teaching the total person – body, mind and spirit – and athletics and activities are a microcosm of Life...” Passionate in his belief, he agreed to sit down for a filmed interview with Shanley Dinner Auction Director Lee Hoedl on November 19, 2014 to discuss this very subject matter. The intent of the interview was to capture Randy’s philosophy regarding student development/faith and the further advancement of student activities/athletics at all the St. John Paul II Catholic Schools. What occurred within this interview spanned far beyond this specific topic and is shared here in this 22-minute personal and heartfelt interview. Randy shares his thoughts on his personal journey through athletics, his desire to work with the JP II Catholic Schools, the importance of faith in a student's education/extracurricular, the next steps in JP II athletics/activities and his insights into success, failure and the importance of impact. Diagnosed with and battling cancer, Randy Nelson went on ahead in his journey with the Lord 12 days later on December 1, 2014. The depth and breadth of his impact on the St. John Paul II Catholic Schools and the greater JP II community of alumni, families and friends will forever remain immeasurable... and will forever be cherished.
