Lotus Temple Delhi (1986 AD), is a Temple Made by Bahai Religion in New Delhi India. The design of the Bahai House of Worship ( Lotus Temple) in New Delhi is inspired by the lotus, the exquisitely beautiful flower and symbol of purity that is inseparably associated with worship and religion of India. The House of the Worship is surrounded by nine large pools of water that not only in enhance the beauty of the Lotus Temple but also play a significant role in the natural cooling system of the prayer hall. An adjunct of the main building is its ancillary building which houses offices, conference hall,library and audio-visual room. The common characteristic of the Baha'i' Houses of Worship is that they are all nine- sided. Nine is the highest digit and symbolizes comprehensiveness , oneness and unity. Statistical Information of the Houses of Worship -Land for its site was purchased in 1953 -Temple Land Area - 26.6 acres -From Floor to top of building -- 34.27 meters -Auditorium Seating Capacity - 1300 persons -Number of Petals - 27 -Number of Pools - 9 -Diameter of the main building - 70 meters -The Architect - Mr. Fariburz Sahba - Construction of the Lotus Temple Delhi began on April 21, 1980 and the edifice was formally dedicated to the Unity of God, Unity of Religion and Unity of Mankind on December 24, 1986 -The petals are made of white concrete. On the exterior the petals are clad in white Greek marbles Panels. - The House of Worship was built by voluntary contribution received from Indian Baha'i' Community as well as Bahais around the world.
