Description

2014-11-22. AT&T Cowboys Stadium, Arlington, TX. 2nd Round playoff game between bitter rivals Allen and Desoto HS. Last year Allen went on to win back to back state championship after a miraculous 4th quarter comeback against Desoto in the semifinal. This time Desoto was out for revenge. Trailing 14-0 early, Desoto managed to even the score at halftime, then jumped to a 22-14 lead in the 3rd. Its defense kept Allen at bay until the 4th when Allen was finally able to score again to even the score at 22-22 with about seven minutes to play. The two defensive units fought hard to keep the other team out of the end zone. With about two minutes left, Allen was able to force Desoto to punt and took over at its own 23-yard line for a do-or-die final drive. What happened next was perhaps the most thrilling sequence of high school football ever witnessed at the billion-dollar Cowboys Stadium. After some spectacular plays, Allen was able to get into Desoto's red zone. With no timeouts, first-and-goal at the 9-yard line, and only 19 seconds on the clock, Allen could only move the ball a few yards with a short run. As time was running out, Allen somehow managed to bring in the field goal unit with only a few seconds left. The 20-yard field goal sailed through the uprights just as the clock hit zero. 25-22, final score. Once again, Allen denied Desoto a shot at a state championship (3rd year in a row) in another nail-biting comeback victory. It would be an understatement to say that a true rivalry has been born in Texas High School Football.
