Description

The high court has issued orders stopping the removal of 6 JSC officials from office until an application filed by Judicial Service Commission against parliament and the speaker of the national assembly is heard and determined. Justice George Oduga said parliament should obey orders issued by the court. Parliament is today expected to debate the motion tabled by the legal committee that is recommending the investigation and removal of six JSC commissioners. The magistrates and judges union had opposed the decision taken by the committee and wanted the matter looked into wholesomely instead of victimising the six commissioners. JSC is accused of paying hefty allowances. There has been an argument that parliament is trying to paralyse activities of the judiciary by ensuring the removal of the six commissioners. There are also claims the judiciary's budget is going to be reduced, a matter the judiciary staff has termed as intimidation by parliament.
