The South Korean military confirmed that a short range projectile was fired in the afternoon toward the northeastern direction of the East Sea. We'll have more on that in the late edition of Arirang News. In what appears to have become a blame game between the two Koreas, the South Korean government rebuked North Korea's claims that it turned down Pyongyang's previous proposal for dialogue over the Gaeseong standoff. The unification ministry urged the North once again to engage in dialogue. Our Unification Ministry correspondent Hwang Sung-hee has the full report. South Korea has once again urged its communist neighbor to engage in dialogue rather than distort facts about the current inter-Korean tensions. In response to North Korea's recent finger-pointing at the South Korean government for the shutdown of the Gaeseong Industrial complex, Seoul's Unification Ministry Spokesperson Kim Hyung-suk said Sunday... North Korea is clearly at fault. "The whole world witnessed North Korea halt operations at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex with its continuous threats, unilateral communication and travel ban, and its pull-out of all North Korean workers." Over the weekend, North Korea sent faxes to a number of South Korean companies with businesses in Gaeseong... claiming that the South Korean government denied its previous proposal to discuss unsettled issues regarding the joint business park. The claims followed South Korea's third proposal for dialogue -- this time, working-level talks over the return of South Korean companies' assets remaining at the border town. The spokesperson stressed that Pyongyang must act responsibly by ending its false claims and provocations and come to the negotiating table. "North Korea must end provocative actions like launching missiles and instead adhere to international standards, such as protecting the assets of companies by returning their production material and finished goods." Kim said the South Korean government plans to dispatch four working groups on Monday to conduct on-site inspections at some 120 companies in the South that hold business operations in Gaeseong ... in an effort to find measures to compensate for their losses. "Amid all this, a group of South Korean businessmen has said it plans to make another attempt at visiting North Korea this Thursday. However, the unification ministry said it has not yet received the group's detailed travel plans. Hwang Sung-hee, Arirang News."
