We got the best of movie and TV news for you right here at Screen Buff! Ok you’re already in Game of Thrones withdrawal, but good news! … kinda. Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss just confirmed the show has 15 episodes left. At most. So that could totally be two whole seasons! Apparently HBO wasn’t able to convince them to continue on for more seasons despite the fact that the Season 6 finale drew a record breaking 8.9 million viewers. Benioff said the show was originally supposed to be one giant story that made sense from beginning, middle, and end. So far it is. And you know what, that means there won’t be crappy filler episodes. And there’s nothing worse than a show that keeps going past its prime. Hint hint supernatural… If you ever needed proof of how song choice can be deceptive in a trailer, Star Trek Beyond’s is it. The third trailer just dropped and features Rihanna’s new song Sledgehammer. It’s pretty haunting and really brings the melodrama and existential yearning. But compare that to the first trailer for Beyond, scored with a Beastie Boys track… that just sounds like traditional action adventure. So what’s it going to be? Does Rihanna’s crooning suggest the last film from this Star Trek generation? Or will it be the light hearted action-comedy we’d expect from writer Simon Pegg? I guess we’ll find out soon... Star Trek Beyond hits theaters on July 22. And finally, Bruce “The Chin” Campbell has a horror film festival! We ain’t lying. The line-up for the cult horror icon’s fest in Chicago just got confirmed and it is packed full of spooky stuff new and old. First off, the director of 2013’s Evil Dead reboot will screen his second film Don’t Breathe. Then, the classic Army of Darkness will feature a special “interruption” by comedian Doug Benson and Campbell himself. Add on horror-comedy Found Footage 3D… the genre-bending flick Show Yourself… and a screening of The Greasy Strangler from Elijah Wood’s SpectreVision… and we’ve got a one hell of a horror weekend. The fest is set to stun on August 18-21st. Be sure to let us know what you think about all this exciting stuff by commenting below, and subscribe to get your weekly fix of movie and tv awesomeness.
