CRST's Salazar Per Cap payment dispursement started today, May 15, 2013. Lakota Advocates, a grassroots group, protested at the City of Eagle Butte Liquor Store, which is in the heart of the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation, but is a state municipality. The liquor store found itself on the front lines of a much-disputed land annexation of reservation land by the City of Eagle Butte and questions about the city's finances and tax payments. Advocates also claim that intoxicated persons have been seen being served. City of Eagle Butte Mayor Stephanie Davidson, CRST tribal member, asked the group not to block the doorways of the establishment and reaffirmed their right to protest. When told about serving to intoxicated persons, Davidson replied that she would personally call and remind the clerks to follow law. Some tribal members feel that the City of Eagle Butte is like White Clay, NE, a hotly contested border city barely a mile from Pine Ridge, SD, on the Oglala Sioux Reservation.
