Description

Your daily dose of Phoenix from the WHE Center. Phoenix is a 5 year old Chow Chow/German Shepherd mix who recently was saved with a severely embedded collar which had been cutting into his skin for his entire life. He was discovered when he leapt from the back of a Grey or silver ford Ranger driven by a very large black male on Woodlawn Rd near the Garden Place. He had 30' of cable attached to him, was emaciated, suffering from heartworms, and a severe systemic infection caused by the collar. He was terrified and lashing out at all of the Humans who tried to help him until he met Rafi at Animal Control. When she cut the cable from his neck he seemed to realize she was trying to help him and began licking her face. He rode with her to our vet where he was placed under anesthesia, his collar removed, and the deep wounds scrubbed and debrided. About a week later, Phoenix has come a long way. He still has a very hard and long journey to full emotional and physical recovery, but he is resilient and strong and we have no doubt he will get there.
