Description

In 1987, Bill Haley received a total of three consecutive posthumous honors--being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in NYC in February; the Philadelphia Music Foundation Hall of Fame in April, where a bronze plaque was set into the sidewalk bearing his name, outside the prestigious Philadelphia Music Academy; however the biggest honor was to come later that same year: Bill Haley's Original 1955 Comets-reunited after 22 years for a special appearance at the First Annual Philadelphia Music Awards in October 1987 at the Philadelphia Academy of Music. The guests and artists were literally a "Who's Who" of the Philadelphia music scene, and was equal in splendor and elegance to the Grammy Awards and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Awards! The Comets stole the show with a lengthy set that included backing up fellow Philly music legends: Charlie Gracie; Mike Pedicin Sr. and John Eddy. The event received worldwide media coverage, and relaunched the career of the Original Comets, whose international touring career continues to this day! The Comets in this videoclip are: Frannie Beecher-lead guitar; Marshall Lytle-upright bass; Johnny Grande-piano; Dick Boccelli-drums; Joey D'Ambrosio-tenor sax; and an assist from 70s Comet Bill Turner-electric bass.
