PHILIPPINES VS ARGENTINA 2ND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS September 1, 2014 @ Spain FIBA WORLD CUP CHAMPIONSHIP 2014 The Philippine national men’s basketball team once again showed its heart in coming back from a double digit fourth quarter lead but again barely missed an upset after falling to Argentina, 85-81, in Group B action of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Sevill, Spain. Down by 10 points, 71-61, heading into the final period, the Filipinos again stormed back in the fourth as it had done in games past. Ranidel De Ocampo scored on a layup before he and Jimmy Alapag knocked down back-to-back three-pointers for an 8-0 run that brought Gilas Pilipinas to within two, 71-69. But Argentina doused the rally, stringing together two treys of their own to restore a 77-69 edge with seven minutes to play. But the Philippines refused to give up. Gabe Norwood hit a shot and Alapag hit another triple to cut the Argentineans lead to three, 79-76. After Argentina responded with a long range bomb of their own, Gilas again inched closer on a basket from Andray Blatche and another triple from Alapag – his third of the period – to come to within a single point, 82-81. Andres Nocioni earned a trip to the free throw line but only connected on one of his two attempts to make it 83-81 in the final minute. Jayson Castro was whistled for a travelling violation on Gilas next possession to give the ball back to Argentina, which got two more points on a pair of free throws from Nocioni.
