Description

OVERSEAS: David Bazan, Will Johnson, Bubba Kadane, Matt Kadane. overseasband.net Directed and Photographed by Keven McAlester. Edited by Kelly McGillicudy. DIRECTOR’S NOTES I shot the footage in this video over the course of a year, with the idea that I’d shoot the whole thing first, then convince someone to let me make a music video with it. If that sounds like a spectacular way to waste time and money, it is; but the only surer way to do those things would have been to try to describe the concept on paper and then hope someone would take a flier on making it. And once the guys in Overseas agreed to use it, I couldn’t have been happier that I’d done it this way. DIRECTOR’S BIO Keven McAlester is a writer/director based in Los Angeles. For his first feature film, You’re Gonna Miss Me (2007), McAlester spent three years working with renowned cinematographer Lee Daniel (Slacker, Dazed & Confused, Fast Food Nation) to tell the story of schizophrenic rock-and-roll pioneer Roky Erickson. Described by critics as “brilliant” (Chicago Sun-Times), “chilling” (London Telegraph), and “otherworldly southern-gothic literature” (Toronto Globe and Mail), the film played at over fifteen international film festivals, won a jury prize at the American Film Institute’s Silverdocs festival, and was nominated for a 2007 Independent Spirit Award. For his second feature, The Dungeon Masters (2010), McAlester reunited with cinematographer Daniel for a portrait of three gamers in wayward America. Produced by New York’s Antidote Films (The Kids Are All Right, Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired), the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and played at over a dozen festivals internationally. His other work includes music videos for Spoon, the Old 97’s, and Caroline Polachek/Flosstradamus. He’s currently writing and producing a documentary for PBS.
