Description

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and national team coach Cesare Prandelli eat a banana to show support for Barcelona player Dani Alves' anti-racist gesture. Full Story: Italy's Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and Italian team soccer coach Cesare Prandelli on Monday ate a banana in support of Barcelona player Dani Alves and his stance against rascist abuse. Brazilian Alves picked up a banana and took a bite after it had been thrown at him in a racist taunt by a Villarreal fan during a Spanish league match on Sunday (April 27). Images of the incident were beamed around the world and Alves was widely backed by the football community and celebrities. Villarreal subsequently announced they had given the supporter a life ban. Renzi and Prandelli tucked into the fruit outside the prime minister's office the next day. And sadly for the Italian prime minister, his banana eating showed much more promise than his soccer abilities as he tried, and failed, to show off his ball skills for the cameras.
