Greetings Fellow Foodies and Travelers, Montreal has been a place I have wanted to go for a long time and finally got my chance. Yes I went during the coldest time of year and there was a snow storm with subzero temperatures but it didn't keep me away and it didn't deter the wonderful people there from living vibrant lives and enjoying some of the best restaurants in the world. I had made friends with the owner of Joe Beef through Twitter and he had invited me to come several times and finally I took him up on that offer. I had one of the best meals of my life, and I've had some great ones, and met some people I am proud to call my friends and cannot wait to see again soon. Where I went for my meals: Night 1: Joe Beef I had anticipated this for years after seeing it featured on Anthony Bourdain's show. I knew it would be great but I had no idea it would be like this. I wasn't permitted to order and was brought nearly one of everything on the menu to try. I was poured amazing French wines and champagnes and drank Gin shots with pickles with my friends Patrick and Samia who are servers there. After dinner we wandered down the street to their other restaurant Liverpool House and their new wine bar Le Vin Pappillon that is so beautiful and classy. I drank and enjoyed incredible food with beautiful people all night. It was one of the nights I'll remember for as long as I live. Day 2: Wilensky's Light Lunch A classic Montreal establishment that has been there since 1932 selling their famous fried salami and bologna sandwiches and cherry cola from their soda fountain. If filmed an episode of my show there that you can checkout. The place lives up beyond the hype and the simplicity of it makes it so great. Night 2: Au Pied de Cochon This was also a place I had seen featured on Bourdain's show as well as many others...and is considered by many chefs to be one of the best restaurants in the entire world. They specialize in pork (cochon is french for pig!) and they do it better than anyone. Foie gras and duck in a can that blew me away. The roasted pigs head for 2 with a 3 pound lobster coming out of it's mouth was incredible. Again, I was not permitted to order they just brought me one plate after another until I couldn't take anymore. I had plans after dinner with my friends at Joe Beef but ended up back at the hotel stuffed and unable to do anything. Night 3 Valentine's Day: Liverpool house With my new friends who happen to own the place I was able to get a table on one of the business nights of the year. I had a seat at the bar then a cancellation came through and they offered it to me (its good to have important friends) With envious eyes following me to my table from those waiting and those stuck at the bar, I sat at the best table in the house, right in the window. I had oysters to start which were incredible and then the lobster spaghetti that was just incredible. I cannot express to you how great the service was and how perfect the food was. When you have big expectations things rarely meet them, and even more rarely exceed them. All of these places exceeded my expectations and now I see what the big deal is about.
