Description

It’s National Volunteer Week and the American Red Cross honors the hundreds of thousands of volunteers across the country who help the organization assist people in need. Here in New York City, Long Island and the Lower Hudson Valley more than 6500 adult and youth volunteers serve the organization providing emergency relief following local disasters, helping staff blood drives, serving military members and their families, teaching people lifesaving skills like First Aid and CPR, and so much more. “Our volunteers allow the Red Cross to carry out our humanitarian mission in NYC and beyond,” said Josh Lockwood, regional CEO, Greater NY Red Cross. “Their selfless efforts help save lives every day and offer hope to people in their darkest hours. We are grateful for their support and partnership.” Volunteers enable the Greater NY Red Cross to help more than 10,000 residents every year in our region affected by local disasters. Annually, they also help train tens of thousands of people in Red Cross lifesaving skills; provide critical emergency assistance to more than 1,400 local military families; and reconnect approximately 200 families separated by war or disaster around the world.
