Gay Marriage

Description

Dear leaders, You are feeling pressure from the gay rights side, which is prompted in part by the New Zealand Government and other forward thinking nations. I believe you have softened toward it somewhat, or if not I think you should be. Mr Abbott trained as a minister to work in the Church. You moved to politics. My voting group would like to know that if their children grow up, they will not be persecuted for their sexuality. Why invite that upon your future family? In addition, a God who hates gays, or who tells you to hate gays, is a bad God. A God that infringes upon your sex life, at the risk of lives by prohibiting condoms in Africa, is a bad God. Stay out of people's sex lives, if it's among consenting adults, we don't care. Now, I consider us to be good people, so we don't want to punish homosexuals. This would be a challenging concept for Mr Abbott, and it would gain him support from people who are more reasonable and tolerant. It would also alienate his supporters. Being closely associated with a religion that promotes bad morals Mr Abbott, frightens me. Ms Gillard, less so. I'm curious. Try this. Election promise: "I will reverse my position on Gay Marriage". You'll lose the support of a lot of people in parliament, but they aren't people I want making decisions for me. I want people who are supportive of my neighbour, whoever they are. Gay, straight, asian, purple, Australian, whoever. It would have huge influence on my vote. I am calling you out on it. Why should the Catholic Church still hold so much power over who can get married and how, when clearly it has a negative impact on our lives and our futures? You are in a position, to start afresh and to strongly oppose their views. A politician who does not support equality, is not somebody I would want representing me. Gay, lesbian, bi, whoever, should be granted immediately, the same rights as I have as a heterosexual. I did not choose to be heterosexual. I did not choose to have rights that others do not. I think I'm a moral person. I challenge you to be the same. I'm @AdamReakes on Twitter. Thanks for your time.
