madison moore, PhD (lower case on purpose) recently obtained his doctorate in American Studies from Yale University. His interests are varied and include electronic dance music, nightlife culture, black queer studies, and alternative subcultures. madison is a pop scholar and his writing has appeared in Art in America, Interview, Thought Catalog, Splice Today, and the Journal of Popular Music Studies. madison is currently a staff writer at Thought Catalog and a freelance contributor to Interview. A 2006 Ford Foundation Pre-Doctoral scholar, madison's research has won attention from outside of academia, and he has been profiled by the popular media in Color Lines, NYU Local, Black Book magazine, "Page Six" of the New York Post, and he recently appeared in a front-page profile in The New York Observer. Madison is interested in Brooklyn and and in cities in general. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
