NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - 50 Cent's empire is expanding with a new TV series. He's also dropping a new album, doing live performances, and running his businesses. After nearly a decade in the spotlight, he's still at the top of his game, and he gave me an idea of how he does it. "You have to have a control mechanism where you only accept positive energy," he says. I sat down for a one-on-one interview with Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson as he prepares to launch a new drama series on Starz called "Power." He's the executive producer and plays a recurring role. His work ethic is legendary. "I consider it a whistle-while-you-work concept because I love it," 50 Cent says. "I enjoy myself, and I get a chance to challenge myself and be a part of it in a creative way." He acknowledges that hip hop music is still a big part of him and makes it tough for him to listen purely for enjoyment. "A lot of the escape is why I have an extreme interest in film and television, is because I escape music," he says. "When I hear people's musical choices, because of the process, me being familiar with it, I go 'yeah, that was a good idea' or 'that one, not sure what he was doing. Like, if I don't like it, 'what was that?'" This superstar gives rising stars from "American Idol" a lot of credit. "To be on an actual program like "American Idol," it's already started," he says. "Surviving the actual challenge -- you're already popular. The viewership is so crazy that everyone already knows your name." He tells me he's taking the long view on his sometimes troubled relationship with his son. "I think time has to allow him to acknowledge his behaviors," 50 Cent says. "Even in the Bible it says 'Honor thy mother and thy father' not for the father and the mother to honor thy child." 50 Cent says he has also grown as a person, and has learned to accept the emotional situations he cannot change. But don't expect him to mellow out. He's always good for a big surprise.
