On September 17, 2014 Thomas J. Bata would have turned 100 years old. According to Mr. Bata, "The real role of business is to give a service by making and selling products that satisfy the want and needs of society, and in doing so to be a caring organization in partnership with community and government." In commemoration of his dedication to serving society through business, the Bata Shoe Foundation announces the Thomas J. Bata Legacy Award to support responsible entrepreneurship in the developing world. The award will provide mentoring and $25,000 in funding to support promising entrepreneurs in East Africa.
