General
  • What is Frequency?

Frequency is a personal video service that lets you watch videos - from anywhere and everywhere on the Internet - in one convenient place. Frequency turns the best websites and social media sites into distinct video channels. Simply log in and you'll find all the videos from your favorite sources of news, entertainment, music, sports and technology, as well as all the videos your friends are sharing on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and more.

  • Where does Frequency find all these videos?

Frequency monitors hundreds of thousands of websites and online video sources in near real-time. As videos become available, they automatically and instantly appear in your channels. So, for example, when a friend posts a video on Facebook, it appears in your Facebook channel on Frequency. It works the same way for videos on Twitter, YouTube and every other website or blog. Just select your channels, and the videos come right to you. Every time.

In short, Frequency makes it really easy to see, in one place, everything that's happening in your online world. And to visit the source of any video, all you have to do is click on the link and off you go.

Tuner and Channels
  • What is the Tuner and how do I use it?

The Tuner runs across the top of your screen and has a blue background. It contains an icon for everything you are following – channels, topics and people.

The buttons in the Tuner function like the presets on your car stereo. To tune in a channel, simply click the button and Frequency will begin collecting all the videos in that channel. For example, when you click the Twitter icon in the Tuner, Frequency will begin gathering all the videos posted by everyone you're following.

The Tuner is easy to use and easy to personalize. To change the location of your favorite channels in your Tuner, simply drag an icon to the left or right and it will drop into the new position (currently this feature is only available on the website, not the iPad app). Or, use the drag-and-drop technique to combine multiple icons into one "Smart Channel."

  • What is a channel?

A channel is simply a constantly updated collection of videos that are collected from a website or a group of websites. Newsy, BBC, Facebook, Gizmodo, Twitter – all of these (thousands) are separate channels that you can tune in to.

  • What is "Your Highlights" channel?

Your Tuner contains a few channels that Frequency creates for you. This includes Your Highlights, Top Picks and some others.

Your Highlights showcases the videos from all the channels, topics and people you are following. You can let Frequency choose the videos for you by selecting "Popular" (the default option), or you can see the most recent videos from every channel you're following by selecting "New".

To switch between Popular and New views, click the down arrow next to Your Highlights, above the playlist and then choose the display you desire.

  • What is the Top Picks channel?

The Top Picks is a special channel curated by Frequency editors that contains their favorite picks from the entire index of channels. It's updated in real-time and tracks videos that are trending as well as videos that are being shared or viewed the most. This channel can't be removed from your Tuner.

  • How do I add Channels, Topics, and People?

You'll find everything you might want to follow and watch on Frequency in the Channel Guide. You can access the Guide from the top center of your screen, just above the Tuner.

In the Channel Guide you'll find trending topics and hundreds of channels organized into categories such as News, Music, Technology, Food and many more. You can also connect your Facebook and Twitter accounts while in the Channel Guide – just click on the Social tab.

New to Frequency? The guide is a great way to get familiar with all of your channel options.

  • How do I remove a channel from my Tuner?

    There are several ways.

    On the Website
Place your mouse over any channel icon in your Tuner. Then click on the minus sign at the bottom left corner. Next, click the red box labeled "Remove Channel".

    On the iPad
Place your finger on a channel icon and hold it. The icons will shake and you will see an "X". Tap the "X" and the channel will be removed.

    On the iPhone
Place your finger on a channel icon and hold it. Drag and drop the channel icon into the bar that will appear below. A red bar indicates confirmation that the channel has been removed from your tuner.

Please note: You cannot remove Your Highlights or the Top Picks channels from the Tuner.

You'll see an "X" in the upper right corner of the image. Click the "X" and click "Hide". If you change your mind, you can always Unhide someone in Preferences. You can access Preferences by clicking your name or image in the upper right corner of the screen.

Please note: This feature will only hide videos in your Frequency account (in other words, you won't be able to see videos posted by the people you hide). It will not affect your friendship or following status on Facebook or Twitter.

  • How do I add RSS feeds?

You can add the RSS feed from any website and watch all the videos in that feed on Frequency. When you do so, you'll see an RSS feed icon appear in your Tuner as a channel icon. Frequency will automatically update that channel each time a new video is posted.

Please note: Frequency is not able to read every type of RSS feed. After you complete the steps above, you will receive an email indicating the success or failure of your RSS feed request.

Yes. If there is a specific video somewhere on the Internet that you want to see on Frequency, you can add it yourself. Here's how:

    2. Select Preferences.

    4. You will be notified via email when the video is ready to be viewed, and then you can easily add it to your favorites or share it.

Please note: Any YouTube video you find (in any YouTube player across the Internet) can be added to your YouTube Favorites channel on Frequency. When you find a video you'd like to add, simply Favorite that video in the YouTube player. Of course, you must first have your YouTube account connected to Frequency. To connect your YouTube account, click on your name or image in the upper right corner of the screen, select Preferences and click Connect to YouTube.
